5 Things I’ve Learnt From My First Wedding Dress Appointment

Bridal gowns in Debenhams on Oxford street, London

I have booked my first appointment at the Riki Dalal Haute Couture salon on South Molton street in central London and it was awesome!

I know it might sound cheesy but I truly felt like a princess, walking around in those super expensive, hand-made, gorgeous pieces of artwork.

1) Go prepared, but don’t stress

Browse their website, save some pictures about dresses you like if you have time. If you don’t, there is nothing to worry about as they will most probably show you what they have in the salon, they will ask you questions to understand what you are looking for, and give you ideas. I did not have much time to check their collection, so I felt unprepared, but arriving at the salon I was pleased to see that they are more than helpful, they showed me a catalogue of dresses available at the salon to try on, so I could choose my favourite ones.

2 ) Try on dresses you did not think you would like, most of the time you’ll be surprised

I never really liked to wear garments with V-necklines, until I actually tried on a few wedding dresses with a deep V plunge and I fell in love. It is worth to try on every dress they suggest you in the salon, that is why you are there! Many times you will change your perception about the garment as soon as you have it on!

3) Have some pictures taken about the favourite dresses and details

It will be good to look at the pictures after your appointment, first of all to remember what shapes suit you, what are the details you definitely want on your dream dress, and it is also important to see how you & the dress look on pictures, as I am sure we all want to have a beautiful photo album about our Big Day, looking flawless in our Wedding gown.

Just make sure the person taking the pictures knows what she/he is doing, as photos taken from the wrong angle, under wrong lights can give you a false picture about yourself and the dresses.

4) Don’t even think about makeup

I was a bit worried about looking good slipping into wonderful Bridal Gowns, but thank god I did not put any makeup on (well, only a bit of mascara, but no foundation at all!)

Some dresses were so difficult to squeeze into, I know all of my makeup would have transferred onto the crisp white fabric. So avoid heavy foundation and self tanning lotion!

5) Plan in advance

Having my first Wedding Dress Appointment, I had to realise that finding my dream dress will not be as easy as I thought. I still have a year until our wedding, so there is nothing to stress about.

It is important to give yourself enough time to consider all the options before making your final decision.
