Every year, hundreds of people head to the beach on the coast of Druridge Bay in Northumberland. But this isn’t for the average day out, as strangers whip off their clothes to take part in the yearly North East Skinny Dip.

Now in its sixth year, the event never fails to draw a crowd and this morning was no different.

Approximately 400 skinny dippers ran into the sea before sunrise, as a percussion band performed on the beach.

The aim of the annual event is to raise funds for mental health charity, Mind.

One participant told the Metro: “It was a magnificent sunrise and a special moment when the countdown began and everyone rushed into the sea.”

As the crowds ran into the sea hand-in-hand, a fire-eater and percussion band performed on the beach.

And it was a magnificent sight, as men and women of all ages truly let go of their inhibitions
