Man arrested after Rawtenstall crash leaves two in hospital
A man has been arrested for driving offences after two people were taken to hospital following a crash.
On Saturday morning, emergency services were called to the A56 in Rawtenstall, close to Swanney Lodge Road following reports of a crash involving a Nissan X-Trail and a Toyota Avensis.
Two men were taken to hospital, including a man in his 40s who suffered multiple serious injuries.
He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Following enquiries, a 34-year-old man from Bacup has been arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A spokesperson for the police said on Sunday: "Yesterday we were called to the A56 in Rawtenstall, close to Swanney Lodge Road, at 8.48am, following reports of a collision involving a Nissan X-Trail and a Toyota Avensis.
"Two men were taken to hospital, including a man in his 40s who suffered multiple serious injuries. He is in a serious but stable condition.
"A 34-year old man from Bacup has been arrested."
