Want to know what will be the most stylish Christmas decoration trends of 2017? Here, our homes editor Ben Kendrick highlights three festive themes for Christmas tree decorations and points out the colours and textures that will make our homes look delightful throughout the season.

We have also rounded up our favourite Christmas baubles in each theme so you can treat your tree to a new design this year...

1. CLASSIC RED AND WHITE

"This style comes straight from the Nordic countries with a cosy cabin feel Christmas with jolly reds and whites, offset with greys, a fresh spruce tree, sheepskins and rustic elements complete the look," Ben describes. "Look for solid coloured red baubles which mix well with silvers and homespun designs – simple stripes or checks, snowflake or tree motifs."

2. EMERALD GREENS AND WOODLAND THEMES

"Forest themes are popular again this year featuring animal and bird decorations, from owls and stags to fircones and acorns," says the interior expert. "Greens vary from softer sage through to bright jade and emerald. For contrast, mix this theme with gold and add in plenty of natural greenery to finish, from spruce (£3.99, Amazon) and fir to fircones (£6.25 for 50, Amazon Best Seller), logs (£10.95 for 15kg, Amazon) and branches."

3. METALLICS TEAMED WITH DARKER SHADES

"A classic Christmas theme, metallics have been updated this year by being teamed with dark, rich shades such as charcoal, indigo, petrol blue or deep charcoal," says Ben. "Decide on either gold or silver for an easy blend. You can choose copper but this is harder to mix with other metallics.

"Partner with deep shades on walls or in accents such as throws and cushions or curtains. For decorations look for metallic stars, antiqued finish baubles or glitter details."
