28 Years Later trailer sees Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson chased by zombies as fans ‘spot’ Cillian Murphy
Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are seen fighting for their lives in the gripping new trailer for Danny Boyle's much-anticipated zombie sequel, 28 Years Later. The film is set in the same world as the 2002 apocalyptic horror flick 28 Days Later, which featured Cillian Murphy as a bicycle courier who awakens from a coma to discover society has crumbled following the accidental release of a highly infectious, rage-sparking virus. The latest instalment takes place almost three decades after the virus broke free from a bio-weapons lab, with a few managing to survive among the infected despite stringent quarantine measures.
The plot thickens when one member of the group leaves their safe island for a mission on the mainland, revealing horrifying secrets and terrors that have not only mutated the infected but also other survivors. The high-octane trailer plunges straight into the action, starting with a group of children being quietened while watching Teletubbies on TV, before blood splashes across the screen accompanied by a woman's shriek. The words "it began 10,228 days ago. Days became weeks. Weeks became years" flash across the screen as scenes of broken church windows and terrified people running for their lives unfold.
The scene then shifts to life on a small island where men are seen working with horses, and a board displaying "roles in the community", including farming roles and councillor, is shown.

The trailer teases a gripping scene where Aaron and a young boy leaves their secure community, armed with bows and arrows, to face the horrors that lie beyond, encountering terrifying zombie-like creatures. Jodie is seen holding a newborn, walking towards a sinister path lined with skulls, Ralph Fiennes by her side, while eerie broadcasts play in the background.
Aaron is spotted taking aim with his bow as Jodie braces herself against a hoard of zombies. Sony Motion Pictures Group's chairman, Tom Rothman, had previously teased, in conversation with Deadline, that Cillian would return in a "surprising way".
Although Cillian's part is not revealed in the trailer, there is buzz among fans that he features in the trailer as a gaunt zombie. Joining the cast are also Jack O’Connell of Back To Black fame and the youthful Alfie Williams. The wait will be over when 28 Years Later hits the silver screen on June 20 2025.
