28-year-old man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on runner

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a runner in Ingleby Barwick, in the North East of England.

The 28-year-old man has been arrested and held in police custody, Cleveland Police said in a Facebook post on Wednesday night. They said the arrest follows a report of a woman in her 40s being sexually assaulted while jogging in Ingleby Barwick around 1.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a police statement, the victim was approached by a man who groped her and made a comment towards her. The man was described by police as a white male (possibly tanned and of Eastern European appearance) with dark hair, dark unkempt facial hair, around 5 ft 9” to 5 ft 10” tall, of stocky/ large build and aged in his late 20s to early 30s. He reportedly spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black coloured t-shirt and black joggers.

It is believed the suspect had a distinctive gait, police added.

Police are continuing to investigate the assault and encourage anyone with information to call 101, quoting 093133.
