A whole decade of photographing food before you eat it
If anyone wants to feel old today, we can help you out, with the announcement that Instagram turned 10 today (October 6).
While it's hard to remember our lives without the visual platform, we actually did all have a life before the 'gram, which only became available to the public in 2010. Since then, the platform has grown enormously (it has more than one billion users) while simultaneously influencing pop culture and society one post, account and hashtag at a time.
We have the site to thank for the influencer, the fact that everyone photographs their food before eating it, keeping up to date with your friends and families' goings on - even if they are on the other side of the world - global social justice movements and well, memes. So many memes.
There are also some less positive issues... which anyone who watched the Social Dilemma recently is likely to have been reminded of. We love Instagram so much that we tend to have it permanently open, but the need for time away from the phone, a greater awareness for how algorithms work as well as the constant recognition that it's not real life is also imperative.
To mark a decade of Instagram, here are 25 of the biggest moments, posts, accounts and legacies from the platform.
