2017 is a huge year for famous books getting the cinema treatment and being turned into movies - so it might be worth getting your hands on a copy of these 29 books and reading them first.

Fifty Shades Darker

E.L. James' second book in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise is getting the movie treatment in 2017, and watches Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey attempt to have a normal relationship - only for his past to come back and cause some havoc. Released on February 10th.

Logan

If it's a sci-fi superhero storyline you're after, Logan is the third instalment in Wolverine's solo movies and the tenth film in the X-Men franchise, and tells the story of a post-apocalyptic future. Based on 'Old Man Logan' by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, released March 3rd.

Before I Fall

This YA novel-turned film tells the story of a popular teenager who is killed in a car crash, and is forced to relive the critical day seven times in an attempt to try and change the outcome. She learns important lessons about herself, her behaviour and the people around her in the process. Based on 'Before I Fall' by Lauren Oliver, released in cinemas on March 3rd.

The Shack

The Shack tells the story of a man who suffers a family tragedy during a camping trip. After spiralling into a deep depression - and urged by a mysterious letter he receives - he returns to the site a few years later, where his spiritual beliefs, mental attitude and physical being are put to the test. Based on the novel of the same name by William P. Young , released in cinemas on March 3rd.

The Sense of an Ending

Starring Harry Potter's Jim Broadbent, the film adaptation of Julian Barnes's award-winning novel will tell the story of an introverted and private man, faced with the flawed reflection of his younger self when past decisions and long buried secrets haunt him. Released on March 10th.

Beauty and the Beast

The long awaited live-action remake of Disney's Beauty and the Beast hits British cinemas later this year, and tells the story of a woman who is taken hostage by a Beast - but later befriends him. It's based on a French fairy tale by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. Released on March 17th.

Ghost in the Shell

Based on a popular manga tale, Scarlett Johansson will stare as Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyberterrorist hunter in a futuristic version of Japan. Based on a book of the same name by Masamune Shirow. Released on March 31st.

The Zookeeper's Wife

This movie adaptation stars Jessica Chastain and Daniel Brühl, and tells the true story of how a Warsaw Zoo saved hundreds of Jews from the Nazis during the WWII by hiding them in empty animal cages. Based on Diane Ackerman's novel, released on March 31st.

Wonder

YA novel Wonder, written by Raquel Jaramillo, is getting the movie treatment from fellow YA author Stephen Chbosky (who wrote The Perks of Being A Wallflower). It's about a boy with a facial deformity trying to fit in at school. Released April 7th.

The Lost City of Z

The Lost City of Z is based on the true story of Percy Fawcett, an explorer who went searching for a lost Amazon city. It'll star Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Charlie Hunman, and is based on the novel by David Grann. Released April 21st.

The Circle

The Circle stars the likes of John Boyega, Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, and tells the story of a young woman who takes on a job at a powerful internet surveillance society (it's far more interesting than it sounds). Based on Dave Eggers novel of the same name, released on April 28th.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Long Haul

This is a sequel to Dog Days, and in it, Greg convinces his family to go on a road trip for his grandmother's 90th birthday, but he actually intends attending a convention. Based on Jeff Kinney's novel, released May 19th.

Everything, Everything

This tells the story of a teenager who lives a sheltered life at home because she's allergic to everything outdoors, only to fall for the boy who lives next door. Based on the novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon, released on May 19th.

My Cousin Rachel

A young Englishman, played by Sam Claflin, seeks revenge against his cousin, Rachel Weisz , but soon finds himself falling under the spell of her mysterious charm. Sounds pretty good, huh? Based on Daphne du Maurier's book, released July 14th.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Cara Delevingne stars opposite Dan DeHaan in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, a sci-fi film about the 28th Century based on Jean-Claude Mezieres Perre Christin's text of the same name. In cinemas July 21st.

The Coldest City

A thriller about a double-spy agent and the race to identify Cold War spies just days before the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Based on the book by Antony Johnston, stars Charlize Theron and James McAvoy and comes out on July 28.

The Dark Tower

Starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConoughey, The Dark Tower is based around a man whose dad is tragically killed in 9/11, who begins to doubt his own sanity after sufferring terrifying and apocalyptic visions. Based on Stephen King's epic novel of the same name, released July 28th.

Stephen King's terrifying novel is getting the movie treatment in 2017, with Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise The Dancing Clown and Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough. Released on September 8.

Victoria and Abdul

The heartwarming story of Abdul Karim, who became a clerk for Queen Victoria aged 24. Stars Ali Fazal and Judi Dench, based on Sbrabani Basu's book and set to be a cracker. Released in UK cinemas on September 22nd 2017.

The Snowman

No, this isn't a full length version of the animated snowman you watch at Christmas with your nan, but rather an adaptation of Jo Nesbø's novel about a serial killer and detective Harry Hole. Stars Michael Fassbender. In cinemas October13th.

The Mountain Between Us

After their flight is delayed due to bad weather, an engaged woman and a surgeon take a charter flight to get home - and end up working together to survive when their plane crashes in the snowy wilderness. Stars Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. Based in Charles Martin's novel, released in the UK on October 20th.

Same Kind of Different As Me

An art dealer befriends a homeless man in a bid to save his struggling marriage to wife Deborah, and the trio end up embarking on a journey that changes all their lives forever. Stars Renee Zellweger. Book by Denver Moore, Lynn Vincent, and Ron Hall. Released in UK cinemas on October 20th.

Let It Snow

John Green's YA novels-turned-movies The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns took over our lives when they came out, and he's back with Let It Snow in 2017. It's basically the next Love Actually, because it tells the story of several different intertwining romances that come together on Christmas Eve. No mention of cast, as of yet. Released on November 22nd.

Murder on the Orient Express

A 2017 movie adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic murder mystery starring Johnny Depp and Daisy Ridley is in the works, and is due to be released in the UK on November 22nd.
