We look to the Duchess of Cambridge to solve many fashion dilemmas: how do we make a £10 ZARA skirt look high-end? And, as the warmer months approach, what's the perfect shoe for spring/summer?

Catherine has deciphered the conundrum of smart, comfortable footwear to sport in the heat, relying on wedged sandals for an elevated, on-trend look.

Kate's beloved nude woven wedges have accompanied her on various royal engagements over the years and, so too, have a pair of espadrilles which look very similar to those Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was spotted sporting in Australia in 2018.

The Duchess-owned pairs are from Monsoon (costing £45) and Castañer which can be bought via Net-A-Porter for £95 — when they're in stock, that is.

However, if you're on the hunt for the perfect hot-weather shoe and either can't stretch to nearly £100 – or just can't get a look-in as both pairs sell-out regularly – we've found a very similar pair for just £22.50 from M&S.

Part of their spring shoe collection, the Wedge Heel Almond Toe Espadrilles are designed with a breathable canvas upper, ankle strap and classic wedge heel.

They feature M&S' feet-aligning Insolia® technology too, to ensure your feet feel comfortable all day long. Plus, they're made from vegan-friendly fabric.

We're pretty certain these shoes will sell out, not least because of the royal connection. So if you're looking for the perfect footwear to carry you through until autumn, then we suggest stocking up sharpish.
