21.2, the latest CrossFit Open workout, has dropped. It's the second workout of CrossFit's latest competition cycle – everyday athletes can compete and measure themselves against the elite for a spot on the global leaderboard.

The CrossFit Open has become more accessible than ever before and, under the guidance of new CEO Eric Roza, comes with new workout adaptions, new divisions (World's Fittest Teacher, anyone?) and new spaces for adaptive athletes wanting to compete.

Simply put, there's never been a better time to start dipping your toe into CrossFit and, with 21.2 requiring only two dumbbells and a box, it's a relatively low-kit workout with accessible scaling options. You just have to be smart about it, check your ego and scale back if you need.

"Almost every version of 21.2 uses the same rep scheme and some form of snatches and burpees. This makes the unavoidable stimulus for everyone extreme and increasing metabolic distress, explains Nicole Carroll, CrossFit's Director of Training.
"This also means the same strategies apply to everyone, especially around pacing."

As we've detailed below, athletes can take on the Open in four different ways:

  • RX: The standard for all CrossFit athletes

  • Scaled: For those who can't complete the workout at RX

  • Foundations: Ideal for newcomers

  • Equipment-free: For the first time ever, the CrossFit open is accessible to those without equipment

Below, we've walked you through each version of the CrossFit Open 21.2 workout:

CrossFit Open 21.2 Workout: RX

Men use a 22.5kg and 24-inch box, women use a 15kg dumbbell and 20-inch box.

Time Cap: 20 minutes

  • 10 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs

  • 20 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs

  • 30 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs

  • 40 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs

  • 50 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-over

CrossFit Open 21.2 Workout: Scaled

Men use a 15kg and 20-inch box, women use a 10kg dumbbell and 20-inch box.

Time Cap: 20 minutes

  • 10 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs (step-ups permitted)

  • 20 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs (step-ups permitted)

  • 30 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs (step-ups permitted)

  • 40 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs (step-ups permitted)

  • 50 dumbbell snatches

  • 15 burpee box jump-overs (step-ups permitted)

CrossFit Open 21.2 Workout: Foundations

Use a 5kg dumbbell or a household item. "To modify the burpee, omit the push-up portion or elevate the hands during the push-up," advises CrossFit.

Time Cap: 20 Minutes

  • 10 alternating snatches

  • 15 burpees

  • 20 alternating snatches

  • 15 burpees

  • 30 alternating snatches

  • 15 burpees

  • 40 alternating snatches

  • 15 burpees

  • 50 alternating snatches

  • 15 burpees

CrossFit Open 21.2 Workout: Equipment-Free

Use a stick or PVC pipe to complete the hang squat snatches, advises CrossFit.

Time Cap: 20 Minutes

  • 10 hang squat snatches

  • 15 burpee broad jumps, 36 in.

  • 20 hang squat snatches

  • 15 burpee broad jumps, 36 in.

  • 30 hang squat snatches

  • 15 burpee broad jumps, 36 in.

  • 40 hang squat snatches

  • 15 burpee broad jumps, 36 in.

  • 50 hang squat snatches

  • 15 burpee broad jumps, 36 in.
