The 2020 Emmy nominations are here
With all the time we've spent inside, experiencing what feels like one never-ending day, the last Emmy Awards showing feels like it was years, not months, ago. And yet, with time moving in mysterious ways in the era of quarantine, we're due for another ceremony.
The TV landscape is much different this year than it has been in any other, and with repeat champion Game of Thrones and universal favourite Fleabag out of the running, the floor is wide open for an interesting pool of shows, actors, and directors. According to the Television Academy, the eligibility period for this year's awards ran from June 1, 2019, to May 31, 2020, which means standout summer shows like I May Destroy You and Perry Mason didn't make the cut. But series that did include Watchmen (sweeping with 26 nominations), followed by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), and Ozark and Succession (18 nominations each).
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards are slated to broadcast on Sunday 20 September. However, with the coronavirus pandemic upending production schedules around the industry, it's possible that date could change. Here, we present your 2020 nominees.
