A tightening of restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus came into force in the North East of England on Wednesday.

In these areas, members of the public face large fines if they mix with other households or support bubbles indoors.

But there has been some confusion over how the rules apply in different settings, with even Boris Johnson himself appearing to struggle to get to grips with them.

The Prime Minister was forced to apologise, claiming he 'misspoke' as he faced fierce criticism from opposition MPs for failing to accurately explain the new restrictions.
