Story and video from SWNS

These pictures show two 'foolish' wild swimmers being bashed by huge waves during a dangerous storm.

Sam Whitfield, 29, spotted the two swimmers in the sea as Storm Francis battered the UK with high winds and torrential rain.

He said the two men were putting their own lives at risk, and those of the emergency responders who may have needed to rescue them from Plymouth Sounds in Devon.

Sam said: "They were putting their lives at risk because you don't know what's underneath the water, there are strong currents and rip tides.

"It has an impact on the agencies that have to assist if there is an emergency, I almost ended up calling them because I thought they were struggling to get out.

"It would have an effect on their family and friends if anything did happen.

"My advice would be to not get in the water in those conditions.

"I wouldn't, it doesn't matter if you're experienced or not - it's not worth taking the risk. People need to respect the sea."
