With the new year creeping up on us, we’re taking a look at what people are reconnecting with their selves and practising for the new year, with the biggest health and wellness trend predictions for 2019.

From sleeping better to ditching the alcohol, Pinterest users are taking to the platform to inspire them to improve their health. The upcoming year will bring new products on the wellness scene, including new skincare ingredient on the block, bakuchiol, and the rising popularity of ginger oil as a topical remedy for aches and pains.

Here’s what we will be doing for our health in 2019:

It’s all about bakuchiol

This vegan skincare ingredient is said to be a alternative to the uber-popular retinol. With searches up 275%, Pinterest users are seeking out products which contain this anti-ageing ingredient which is said to help prevent fine lines and wrinkles, plus improve skin elasticity and pigmentation.

Elderberry everything

Not just for cocktails, the humble elderberry was big news in health this year. Search is up +685% for recipes including elderberry, which contains a component called anthocyanins, a deep purple pigment which boosts your immune system helping you to fight colds and flu.

Exercising in your living room

Well, the weather outside is frightful…thankfully, flexible resistance bands, made from stretchy latex, are your friend, as Pinterest users will firmly testify, with a 1913% increase in ‘band workouts’ searches on the platform.

Going sober

People are increasingly turning to non-alcohol cocktails and teetotal living, as searches for ‘sober living’ increase by 746% – meaning we may see a lot more sober guests at New Year’s Eve parties to bring in 2019. Raspberry lemonade, anyone?

Ginger fever

Not just for baking, you may or may not know ginger can also soothe everything from muscle aches to nausea and motion sickness. Searches for ginger oil were up 659% this year.

Super powders

The rise of the super powder continues, as maca, matcha and turmeric powders enjoy a sustained popularity, rising 144% in the past year thanks to their frequent use in health-boosting smoothies, juices and, more recently, the rise of the superpowder latte.

Sleep health

As anyone who has had a bad night’s sleep will agree, getting a decent amount of undisturbed zzz is essential. While this isn’t a breakout trend (after all, sleep has always been important in health), sleep optimisation has enjoyed a further 146% increase in search. We’re increasingly concerned with maximising our snooze time, from investing in a decent duvet to womb hotels.

Beeswax wraps

Tired of throwing away yards of clingfilm? Natural, reusable beeswax wraps, which enjoyed a 146% rise in search this year, are handy to have in your kitchen as a sustainable method of storing and covering bread, vegetables, fruit, sandwiches – you name it.
