Nine-year-old goes viral after discovering outrageous new use for her chapstick

A nine-year-old girl from Missouri is going viral after her innovative new use for chapstick left social media users praising her resourcefulness.

The phenomenon started on Tuesday night, when the girl's mum, Valerie Schremp Hahn, shared a photo of the lip balm tube her daughter had brought home from school that day.

Apparently, the fourth-grader was hungry and wanted an easy, sleek way to snack in class. Her solution? She emptied out her chapstick tube and refilled it — with cheese.

"My nine-year-old daughter has taken an old lip balm tube and filled it with cheese so she can eat it in class," Schremp Hahn's tweet said.

The girl apparently got the idea from a YouTube compilation of back-to-school pranks, during which someone emptied a glue stick and stuffed it with slices of cheese.

"I was just looking on YouTube because I was bored and I found this video and I decided to do it," the nine-year-old told BuzzFeed News. "I just took some of my dad's cheese, sliced it up, and put it in the chapstick container."

She detailed her methods to BuzzFeed News, explaining that she simply washed the chapstick tube out with soap before filling it with slices of cheddar cheese her family had bought at Aldi. The fourth-grader added that she tried the hack again on Wednesday, this time bringing two of her "cheese stick chapsticks" as a snack to have during a test.

The internet was overwhelmingly positive in its reaction to the idea, praising the girl's practical — and hilarious — DIY skills.
