Car narrowly avoids hitting child after failing to stop for school bus

The Minnesota State Patrol in the United States has urged drivers to obey the law when approaching a school bus, after footage released showed a car narrowly avoid hitting a student.

The video, which was filmed in January, shows 10-year-old Ambriel Johnson crossing the road to board her bus when a car fails to slow down and almost hits her. According to local media, the 20-year-old driver pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor.

He received a $300 (£172) fine and ordered to perform community service. According to state law, motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying red flashing lights. The bus's red flashing light can be seen in the video.
