Seismic event may have been largest known underwater eruption ever

The mysterious deep rumblings on November 11 of last year that began near the Madagascar-adjacent island of Mayotte, and traveled around the world while going unnoticed by earthquake detection systems, may have finally been explained.

At the time, speculation was rife as to the cause of the 'colossal' event, with some even joking that a giant prehistoric sea monster may have been to blame.

But now scientists think they know what caused the huge tremor, with all evidence pointing to the largest offshore volcanic event in recorded history.
