Scientists have just discovered the fossils of two bizarre new creatures that roamed the oceans 500 million years ago.

Obamus Coronatus and Attenborites janeae, named after former President Barack Obama and naturalist Sir David Attenborough respectively, were discovered by scientists from the University of California Riverside.

Obamus Coronatus was a small disk shaped creature less than two centimetres big and didn't move much, while Attenborites janeae was also egg-shaped and also really tiny.

Both of the fossils were found in the Flinders Ranges region of southern Australia.

Researchers say the animals are apart of a collection of other soft bodied organisms preserved as fossils, but the new creatures are unlike any type of life described before.
