First pictures and details released for insane Mercedes-AMG G 63

It's not been long since Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new generation of its G-Class SUV in full, showing off the vehicle's newly luxurious interior but promising similar levels of off-road ability. Now, though, the brand has announced a successor to the previous G's most ridiculous incarnation - the brutish AMG G 63.

The new G 63 keeps the regular G-Class' boxy bodywork and unashamedly off-road based styling but upgrades the underpinnings rather significantly. Under the bonnet lies the latest version of AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine. In the G 63 it develops 576bhp and 850Nm of torque.
