There's a small but dedicated market for go-anywhere campervans – vehicles that can traverse off-road trails with ease, but with a feather mattress and a loo to bring a touch of luxury to the wilderness. Mercedes has launched its latest interpretations of this at the Caravan, Motor, Touristik (CMT) show in Germany.

Based on the X-Class, the camper is a demountable unit – it sits within the truck's load bed and above the cab, but can be removed if necessary. Once in place, the unit – built by specialist Tischer – offers nearly two metres of headroom, room for three to dine, a three-burner gas hob and even a full shower and toilet.
