Playing chicken? Police rescue fowl from a California highway

Here in the UK, we're accustomed to swerving for birds – pheasants, mostly – that pepper our roads with no thought of self-preservation. The same thoughts must have gone through the heads of these chickens, after police were forced to relocate them from their resting spot in the middle of a major California road.

California Highway Patrol officers scrambled to rescue the birds, who got loose after their cage fell from the back of a truck. Seventeen chickens were eventually rescued, though two sadly were killed. No good for nuggets, then.
