The winner of Great British Bake Off 2017 has been revealed.

Sophie Faldo was crowned the ultimate baker in the Channel 4 show on Tuesday night.

The former Army officer beat Kate Lyon and Steven Carter-Bailey to the title after impressing the judges with her seven-layered, honey bee-themed entremet showstopper.

Speaking about her win, Faldo said: "I hadn't allowed myself to think that I could win it up to that moment in time when they said my name and then the enormity of it hit me."

Hours earlier, new judge Prue Leith accidentally revealed Faldo as the winner on Twitter as she wrote: "Bravo Sophie."

She quickly deleted the tweet and apologised, revealing she was abroad and got her time zones mixed up.

The new series of Bake Off has been a success for Channel 4 after they bought the format following a bidding war with original broadcaster BBC.

Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins declined going to Channel 4, while original judge Paul Hollywood was joined by Leith, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.
