Last year, Lucky the chicken was crammed into a truck with hundreds of others and sent to the slaughterhouse.

Somewhere in Washington, something shook Lucky from her cage and dumped her onto the road.

Warren Padgette, a truck driver, was driving behind Lucky and saw the weak bird flop onto the pavement.

He said: "I pulled up next to her and looked down and saw that she had blinked at me. So I pulled the car over and picked her up."

Once her got home Padgette bathed her, blow dried her feathers and gave her the name 'Lucky'.

The pair are now inseparable, with Lucky following her saviour everywhere.
