It's the battle of the Kylies - Minogue vs Jenner - and it appears that Kylie Minogue has won.

The 48-year-old Australian singer has reportedly managed to scupper a trademark application made by Kardashians star Jenner, 19. In the filing, Jenner attempted to register the word 'Kylie' for the purposes of 'advertising services' and 'endorsement services'.

Celebrities with surprising side businesses

However Australian singer Minogue has pointed out that she's been known to fans as 'Kylie' since before Kylie Jenner was born. Her lawyers said that allowing the trademark would cause confusion and damage to her reputation.

And, they said, she already holds several 'Kylie'-related trademarks herself, including the name 'Kylie' for the purposes of education and entertainment services. She's also owned the domain name kylie.com since August 1996 - a year before Jenner was born.

And her lawyers were scathing about Jenner, calling her a 'secondary reality television personality who appeared on the television series Keeping Up With the Kardashians as a supporting character'.

They added that "Ms. Jenner is active on social media where her photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts have drawn criticism from, eg, the Disability Rights and African-American communities."

Three jobs working for celebrities that are available now

Minogue, on the other hand, is described as an 'internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian and breast cancer activist known to the world simply as Kylie'.

The case has now been withdrawn; and, according to the Daily Mail, it's because the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has rejected Jenner's application.

However, it says, she plans to appeal.

What jobs did the Kardashians do before they were famous?

It's not the only trademark battle to be going on with the Kardashians - they've recently been in dispute amongst themselves.

Late last year, it was revealed that Kim Kardashian West and her sisters, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, were trying to stop their future sister-in-law Blac Chyna - real name Angela Renee White - from trademarking the Kardashian name. She's now believed to have given up on the plan.

Thanks to endorsements and spin-off product lines, a celebrity's name can be their fortune. Just last week, for example, reports emerged that Beyonce and Jay-Z were attempting to trademark the name of their five-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter.

The aim, says TMZ, is to launch a line of products including beauty products and teething rings.
