The moment a 'ghost' floated across the entrance to Dover Castle has been caught on camera.

The CCTV footage shows a dark figure moving across the entrance before a security guard walks over to take a closer look at the strange 'spectre'.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by a user called spyder1spanner2, and, according to the Mirror, a caption with the footage reads: "I promise you this is not a fake. It's filmed on CCTV at Dover Castle on to a mobile.

"I wouldn't even know how to start making this a fake, to be honest."

The footage appears to be from 2011, but has just started to go viral.

According to the Dover Express, one viewer, Louise Hampton, said: "This is a great footage! Looks like it tried to manifest. One can see how the legs were actually walking."

Another user was a lot more sceptical, writing: "It doesn't look that much like a ghost more like a car going past and it's just light reflecting off everything and makes that part seem a tad darker. "

Dover Castle is a medieval castle in the town of the same name in the English county of Kent, and is the largest castle in England.

It was founded in the 12th century and has been described as the "Key to England" due to its defensive significance throughout history.
