A hiker has been rescued after yodeling for help when he became stuck in a cattle grid for three hours.

German tourist Martin Kaiser, 54, used the traditional mountain form of communication after getting stuck in the cattle grid while walking along a remote forest train leading up to the Hochkoenig mountain in the Austrian Pinzgau region, reports the Daily Mail.

He had been walking his dog when the animal stopped at the grid and ran back the way they had come. As he span round to call him back, Kaiser lost his footing and got one of his legs stuck.

According to the Austrian Times, he said: "It was incredibly painful and very difficult to move. I couldn't get out at all and so all I could do was wait until someone came along to help me.

"I eventually decided to yodel for help because there was nothing else to do.

"I was worried that I might get sunstroke, or suffer damage to my leg because the circulation might have been cut off. I certainly didn't want to end up spending the night there."

A cyclist eventually heard his yodeling and attempted to free Kaiser himself.

When this did not work, the cyclist called emergency services and firemen arrived on the scene, reports the Austrian Independent.

He was eventually freed unhurt and allowed to continue on his walk.
