Microsoft has announced that it will soon offer a more affordable version of its latest games console, the Xbox One, as it battles against Sony's PlayStation 4 in the world of gaming.

As of 9 June, gamers will be able to pick up the cut-price Xbox One, which comes without Kinect, for the reduced price of £349, compared to the current £429 price tag.

Access to games such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Forza Motorsport 5 and Dead Rising 3 will be available, along with apps including YouTube and Netflix. The console's current features, including game invitations whilst watching TV, switching between games, uploading proud gamer's moments, and Twitch broadcasts, will also remain in the cheaper machine.

Announcing the news via a blog post, Xbox head Phil Spencer said: "We've heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences, and you also want options in your hardware selection."

Mr Spencer also explained that the new Xbox One option by no means signals the end of Kinect, insisting it "remains an important part of our vision".

Those who take advantage of the cheaper console will be able to upgrade with a standalone Kinect sensor from autumn of this year.

The tech giant also revealed plans to make entertainment apps free, allowing users to enjoy the extras without an Xbox Live Gold membership.
