Ben Nevis climber collapses and dies

A man attempting to climb Ben Nevis, Scotland, has collapsed and died, Scottish police have confirmed.

The 51-year-old, believed to be from Glasgow, fell ill on the pathway on Saturday.

Highland police were alerted and he was airlifted to Belford Hospital in Fort William by an RAF helicopter. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Members of a group of climbers as well as two off-duty doctors had tried to revive him on the mountain before the helicopter arrived, reports the BBC.

No further details of the man will be released until next-of-kin have been informed.

Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain, is a one of Britain's most popular destinations for hikers and attracts more than 100,000 visitors a year.

In February a man died after falling about 50m (164ft) in the Raeburn's Buttress area on the north face of the mountain.
