You certainly wouldn't call this a 'Little Mermaid'.

The 'Giant Mermaid' sculpture in Hamburg's Alster Lake has got day-trippers in a twist.

The 12-foot-tall floating artwork was designed in three pieces by artist Oliver Voss, advertising executive and head of the advertising academy Miami Ad School.

The sculpture is intended to resemble a woman bathing in the picturesque lake and will be on show for the next 10 days.

Oliver took the sculpture's sponsor, Marcia Kilgore, owner of cosmetics compaby Soap & Glory, for a trip in a pedal boat to see his creation.

Considering her name, the only thing we were left wondering was... where's her tail?
