Custard creams, bourbons, jammy dodgers… There’s nothing quite like a good old biscuit washed down by a cup of tea.

But what biscuits do we reach for first when it’s time for that well-earned brew break? Cakes By Nancy used Google search data to discover which top 20 biscuits were being devoured the most by Brits during the nearly three-month lockdown.

Recent retail data revealed that sales of everyday biscuits were up by over 44%, but which reigned supreme? The study revealed that the UK's most popular biscuit was the Lotus Biscoff with over 791,000 searches online during lockdown. This was followed by the bourbon (245,000 searches) and the garibaldi (14,000 searches).

The Lotus Biscoff seems to have knocked the bourbon off the top spot as the British classic had over 500,000 searches per month for the same time last year. Meaning the new trend over the past few years could be here to stay.

The data also analysed which biscuit was the top in which city across the UK.

The British classic bourbon was the most popular in London with over 15,000 searches per month, whereas Brighton and Leeds' top biscuit was the reigning ruler, the Lotus Biscoff, with 8,000 and 9,000 searches per month.

Oreo biscuits and shortbread biscuits rounded up the top five, while Jaffa Cakes, Wagon Wheels, custard creams, malted milks and fig rolls made up the top 10.
