A number of people choose to do 'dry January', or give up alcohol for Lent. But for these celebs, being sober is a 365 days a year way of living.

So, here are 28 celebrities who don't drink alcohol and the reasons behind their choice to be teetotal.

J.Lo looks so incredible at 50 because she's decided to ditch booze to maintain her glowing complexion.

“I don’t drink or smoke or have caffeine,” she told Us Weekly. “That really wrecks your skin as you get older.”

Natalie, 38, has said that she drank a little in her younger days, but doesn't drink alcohol at all now: "I didn’t really go to high school parties, and yeah, I didn’t touch pot 'til I was in my 20s... I didn't get flat-out drunk until I went to college. But I think that's a good thing in many ways."

Naomi, 49, told Life & Style: "I gave up drinking alcohol. Not drinking makes me a lot happier."

Man, I Feel Like A Woman singer Shania explained in her biography that she's a fan of clean living. She doesn't drink, eat meat or smoke.

The 54-year-old also prefers to work with similarly-minded people.

“I like a clean band. I don’t like drugs. I don’t like alcohol,” she said. “I like to have clean-living people around me.”

Tyler, The Creator explained to Fantastic Man magazine why he has no desire to drink to excess.

The 27-year-old said: "I just don’t want to drink. I know that I don’t want to be that drunk guy. But I do know I want to hit a jump on a dirt-bike. I can look at that and say: ‘I want to do that.’ I’ve never seen anyone drunk, like, ‘Damn, I want to be that.’ So, I guess I just naturally got it pushed into my head that I have no reason to go over there and get f**king drunk.”

Technically, Kim doesn't lead a completely booze-free life, but she drinks so rarely, we've included her in this round-up.

“Now she drinks here and there, but mostly abstains,” a source told PEOPLE. “She may have a glass of Champagne on a holiday or for someone’s birthday, but it’s rare.”

Another source said the 39-year-old "just really doesn’t like the taste of alcohol.” They added: “She pretty much doesn’t drink at all. She’s not a partier and it’s just not part of her life."

Rumer no longer drinks alcohol. The 29-year-old told PEOPLE: "My decision to become sober wasn’t out of a need necessarily, it was more just that I did 'sober January' and I just decided to keep going."

In 2011, 46-year-old Tyra told Forbes, "I feel like I've been very lucky because I don't really have an addictive personality. I've never had any drugs, and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that's about it."

Tennis champion Andy decided booze wasn't for him after incurring the hangover from hell when he was 16. Now 32, Andy said: "When I was at tennis school in Barcelona, I remember going out to celebrate a friend's birthday and having a few drinks on a Saturday night.

"I felt awful all day Sunday and not great on the Monday, so I thought, 'I'm not doing that again'."

I always wanted to see how far I could go in the sport. I didn't want to do anything to jeopardise that.

"There were a lot of talented British players around but they didn't take it as seriously as I did, they weren't focused enough."

Blake has been honest about the fact that she's teetotal: The 32-year-old told Allure: "It's just something that I genuinely don't have a desire for. It's not like I decided on these strict lifestyle choices and I'm enforcing them."

The X Factor star 34, revealed to Glamour: “I don’t drink — I hate the taste of alcohol. When my debut single [Bleeding Love] went to No.1, I celebrated with non-alcoholic champagne.”

Pharrell, 46, told PAPER magazine: "Everybody else can do what they want, but that stuff isn't for me. I've been drunk nine times in my life, and I ate some weed brownies once."

Comedian Sarah's reason for not drinking is simple: "I don't drink because it gives me a stomach ache," the 49-year-old explained to CNN. "I try all the time, it looks good and I feel like I would have fun being drunk, but I have a Jewish stomach."

Chris admits that, back in the early days of Coldplay, he did indeed enjoy drinking alcohol, but now the 42-year-old is teetotal.

Kathy was being interviewed by Marlo Thomas (Rachel's mum in Friends) when she explained that when she was 10 years old, she started choking, so her dad gave her a sip of beer to try and help. "I thought 'my nose is burning, I will never have that again.'"

Actress and singer Jennifer explained how difficult it was to play a drug user in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete because she's never drank alcohol or taken drugs.

The 38-year-old told Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Tonight: "I've never done anything, so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober. I'm like, 'OK, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.'"

She added: "I've never been interested. Nobody ever believes it.."

Love star Gillian is often cast as someone with an addiction, which is weird for her as she's never had a drop of alcohol in her life.

“It’s always been kind of confusing to me that I’m frequently cast as someone who is either struggling with addiction or who drinks, given the fact that I’ve never had alcohol in my life, the 37-year-old told PEOPLE.

“I really loved the way the show has handled Mickey’s addiction [in Love], her relationship to 12-step programs. I’ve learned so much through the character, and I really think that it has made it a big difference in my own life.”

Anne, 37, pledged to give up alcohol for 18 years when her son Jonathan was born, because she felt that she couldn't be available for him when she was hungover.

Speaking to Christine Lampard on Lorraine, Anne said: "The time I have with him is really precious. And I do leave a lot for work and I found my time with him was getting impacted, not necessarily by the drinking, as I never went out of control around him. But I hate to say it – as you get older, the hangovers get really bad.

"I had to make a choice and I chose mornings. Isn't that annoying? Isn't that horrible? I'm really irritated by how well it's going."

Sir Elton John has been open about his battle with drugs and alcohol and became sober over 30 years ago after seeing the AIDS epidemic take a toll on society. Talking to The Fix back in 2017 he said: "Within six months I became sober, and clean, and have been for the last 27 years."

Yep, the heartthrob actor is now sober after suffering with alcohol and drug addiction, resulting in rehab admission in 2013. The actor discussed his sobriety in his GQ cover story back in 2013, explaining that at the age of 29 he felt "if I continued it, I was really going to sabotage my whole life."Zac Efron told ELLE in 2016, "You get out of life what you put in. The DJ once told the BBC that he he has forgone consuming alcohol as it was making him ill. "I stopped drinking because it actually was making me ill. It was affecting my brain in the worst way," he said.

The actor has opened up his alcohol addiction in the past. Talking to GQ Style he simply said: “I didn’t want to live that way any more.”

The actress has previously revealed details about her past struggles with addiction on her show, Red Table Talk, admitting, "Drinking red wine for me was like drinking glasses of water. I think back on my life, like, I am a walking miracle, no doubt about that."

In a 2008 cover story with BlackBook, Christina said, "I went through a normal kind of late teens, early 20s drinking, but it was a choice I made, because I didn't think it was very good for my life."

Pretty Little Liars star Lucy has explained that her decision to remove alcohol from her life came around the time she had her hair cut into a bob. She added to InStyle in 2017, "I tried really hard to be the social butterfly," the actress said after years of working the Hollywood party scene.

Spider-Man star Tobey told The Guardian, "I stopped consuming any mind-altering substances when I was 19 years-old. And I've been abstinent since then."
