Wimbledon has become not just the focus of world tennis but a fashion showground during the last fortnight. From royals to A-listers, Britain’s most stylish were out in force to offer summer fashion inspiration in spades.

These were our best-dressed...

If we needed any reminding where the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton get their sense of style, you only have to look at their mother Carole. Mrs M made Wimbledon dressing look effortless in a poppy red linen dress by Australian label Scanlan Theodore on Friday. With its boat-shaped neckline, puffed sleeves and wrap detail across the front, the dress is a flattering piece for most body shapes - no wonder it has been recreated in different prints and colourways.

Carole completed her look with a panama hat and mid-height espadrilles: classic accessories that she can wear summer after summer without dating, just like her dress. Would it be cheesy to say ‘love all’? TA

Lady Helen Taylor

I wish we saw more outings from Lady Helen Taylor, one of the chicest members of the royal family, who seems to fly under-the-radar these days. So I was delighted to see her pay two visits to Wimbledon. For her first outing, she opted for cream Katharine Hepburn trousers, a fashion classic that’s having a moment - Lady Helen styled hers nonchalantly with trainers, a coordinating jacket and elegant sunnies.

On the final day of the championships, Lady Helen was in the royal box to watch her father retire as President of Wimbledon. She went from minimalist to bucolic, in a beautiful maxi shirt dress with pretty ruffles by Damselfly London (she'd rented it from MyWardrobe HQ), giving it a sharper edge with white flatforms. BH

Every woman needs a breezy shirt dress and if you need convincing, look no further than Jenna Coleman’s lovely Ralph Lauren gingham number. It’s timelessly pretty but a doddle to style and can be worn with anything from flip flops to trainers to heels. I’d go for delicate sandals for a lovely Grace Kelly riviera feel. BH

Phoebe Dynevor

A knitted dress is an unexpected choice for a summer sporting event, but Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor looked chic and not at all wintery in Self-Portrait’s ribbed taupe version. It helps that the dress is made from a viscose-polyamide blend, keeping it cool and lightweight, while the midriff cut-out showed just a tiny glimpse of skin. White accessories (I loved her strappy sandals) helped keep the look fresh and summery too. TA

Princess Beatrice

Beatrice oftens opts for quite ‘safe’ ladylike dresses (not a criticism!) so I love that she had fun for her day at tennis trialling a more bold silhouette. That polka dot print and the giant puff sleeves definitely remind me of some of the flamboyant outfits worn by the Princess’s mother the Duchess of York and Princess Diana at the polo in the Eighties. This Self Portrait frock was also a reminder that being pregnant needn’t mean sacrificing your personal style either. BH

The Countess of Wessex

We’ve seen the Countess of Wessex in this £295 cream Me+Em dress with micro polka dots before, and it’s easy to see why she loves wearing it. The shirt-style shape is demure without looking frumpy, and flattering without being boring. It’s endlessly versatile too, as it can be dressed up or down. Sophie usually wears it with heels, but it would look just as lovely with a pair of plain white leather trainers. TA

Sienna Miller

If Sienna Miller’s Wimbledon outfit looked a little familiar, it’s because her shirt is the very same Ralph Lauren style that the Duchess of Sussex wore to watch the tournament in 2018. Sienna is a master of making a look her own though, and teamed the blue-and-white striped satin design with a pair of matching wide-legged trousers, making a strong case for the trouser co-ord becoming the new summer dress.

It’s a look to be approached with caution though - there’s a high risk of a striped set looking like a pair of pyjamas. Sienna made it daywear-appropriate by tucking in the shirt, adding lots of delicate gold jewellery, a pair of heels and a slick of red lipstick. The result was impeccable and my favourite celebrity Wimbledon look this year. TA

Amelia Windsor is the royal family’s resident eco-warrior, on a mission to prove that style and climate consciousness can go hand-in-hand. She made a rare appearance alongside her royal relatives on Sunday, choosing a crisp cherry print dress which she dressed up with stacks of chunky gold jewellery. BH

Billie Piper

Billie Piper is my new style crush and she won again in SW19 with this shorts suit, an elegant alternative to the ubiquitous dress. It’s not just what she wore, but how she wore it, too - minimalist sandals, low key jewellery and beautifully bronzed legs (essential when they’re on show). Note the flatteringly slouchy cut, too. Holly Willoughby

Holly Willoughby proved that she’s as good as nailing dress codes off-screen as she is dressing for her on-screen role on This Morning. For her day at Wimbledon last week, she chose a £265 apple green polka-dot midi dress by sustainable label Reformation, teamed with a cream LK Bennett trench, Mulberry bag and a pair of ankle-tie espadrilles - it was a masterclass in using coordinated accessories to pull a look together. Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge was released from self-isolation just in time for the Wimbledon finals, and her blush pink wool ‘Ahana’ dress by Beulah London was a favourite from her re-entry wardrobe. The £695 design was classic Kate: fitted at the waist, slight volume in the sleeves, and a full midi-length skirt. I love how she styled it with Ray-Ban sunglasses and a vintage beaded Josef bag - she seems to be getting into vintage fashion and I can’t wait to see her wear it more. TA
