10 wines for Christmas that won’t break the bank
It’s our favourite time of the year, but with presents, food, drinks and socialising to spend on, the purse strings can be a little tight. Wine specialist, Alexandra Hale recommends her top 10 wines under £10 for the festive season.
Comte de Senneval Brut NV £11.49, Lidl
Breaking the rules with this one, however if you’re a true champagne lover and Prosecco just won’t do, this is the one for you (at just over the £10 budget!). This bargain Champagne has a rich, full aroma and flavour packed with peach and apricot notes and soft, smooth bubbles. Perfect to accompany pre-dinner canapés.
Morrisons The Best Prosecco, £8, Morrisons
This juicy peach and candied pear flavoured prosecco is packed with large, lively bubbles and makes a very easy drinking tipple. Perfect for a party!
Morrisons The Best Vintage Cava, £8.25, Morrisons
Another Morrisons gem, this vintage cave is elegant, grassy and floral on the nose with a tangy lemon and ripe peach flavour and just a touch of biscuit richness on the finish. Great either with or without food.

If you’re serving salmon or shellfish, sparkling rosé makes a great match. This summery pink fizz from Co-op is elegant and soft with juicy sweet strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours and smooth, lively bubbles.

If you’re looking for a refreshing, fruity white to serve with lighter dishes, this wine is packed with juicy, tangy stone fruit and grapefruit flavours and has a lovely viscous texture making it a great match with richer mild cheeses or white fish dishes.

A crowd pleasing white is key for any festive parties this winter, look no further than the juicy apricot and peach filled Marsanne from Aldi. Elegant and delicate with floral and saline mineral notes on the finish it will work well both with and without food.

Don’t forget the essential Turkey Feast! Chardonnay makes a great match to roast poultry, particularly when it’s full of soft brioche, green apple and citrus notes like this great value wine. The palate is refreshing, yet creamy and perfectly balanced making it incredibly drinkable.
