Macaroni cheese pancakes

Who says you can't make a pancake out of that?

Americans are the masters of comfort food, and also excess. So naturally someone thought to combine two of their most classic dishes for a sweet and salty carb-fest. Very simply, to make She Knows' recipe involves a basic buttermilk batter, with precooked pasta and grated cheese stirred in at the last minute. Go wild.

Scottish burger enthusiasts Mac & Wild have already shown they're willing to break boundaries of culinary decency by offering a haggis mac'n'cheese as a side in their restaurants.

This Shrove Tuesday they're going one step further by involving Aberdeen's most famous dessert: the battered Mars Bar. A crepe is filled with caramel and chocolate ganache, before being deep-fried for a crunchy finish. No doubt homemade versions will cause no end of delight. And mess.

This is surely a cinch to recreate: knock up a stir fry and a large savoury pancake. Put noodles inside pancake. Job done. (Claw optional)

It was only a matter of time before a blogger found a way to put an avocado in a pancake. Described as having a colour reminiscent of the "ghost goo/slime stuff" featured in Ghostbusters – why wouldn't you want to whip up a stack? Simply mix mashed avocado, milk, eggs and nutmeg and stir into a basic pancake mix. Virtuous green delights await.

If you've ever looked at a basic crepe and thought "that doesn't have enough meat in it" you may want to test out Queen of Hoxton's latest endeavour: pulled pork pancakes, drowned in whisky maple syrup.

This should be reasonably easy to make youself: cook a batch of ready-made pulled pork and  a stack of buttermilk pancakes. Top the latter with the former and just keep adding maple syrup.

Eat while drinking whisky. You're welcome.

Burger Pancakes

A nifty trompe d'oeil, you may be relieved to hear that this appetising stack contains no beef or vegetables, but two double chocolate chip cookies.

Far easier than it looks, the recipe simply requires two Scotch pancakes, two cookies, dessicated coconut (for that frightening smear of lettuce), icing sugar and food colouring.

Bound to be a winner with anyone who prefers fast food and dessert above all other foodstuffs.

Yes, you may need sunglasses to look at them, but you don't need anything other than your basic pancake mix and a stack of food colouring. And bowls. Lots of bowls. Depending on how far you want to go, you may need up to six or seven portions of batter.
