With only 3 weekends remaining, the countdown to Christmas is well under way. To help you maintain some semblance of balance (as the champagne dials up and the cardio down) look no further than the must-read health headlines of the week.

1) So you’ve skipped sleep? Don’t panic

Here’s comforting news for sleep-deprived December, A new study by the European Health Journal found that those who regularly sleep for more than 8 hours a night are at a greater risk of heart diseases compared to those who sleep between 6 and 8 hours.

Those who sleep between 9 and 10 hours a night increase their risk by 17%, and those hitting snooze again and sleeping for more than 10 hours carry a 41% increase of heart related illnesses.

But don’t set the alarm too early. Sleeping for less than 6 hours increases your risks by 9% as well.
