10 white wines under £15 that's perfect for dinner parties

It's much easier to take red wine to a dinner party - it will reliably pair with most main courses.

But what if you preferred white wines? While most white wines will only work for white meats and seafood, it doesn't always have to be the case.

Here are 10 white wines, all under £15, that will see you through some great meals.

Cave de Lugny Macon Villages Blanc 2012, Burgundy, France

Green apple is the top note for this robust white wine, made from Chardonnay grapes. It has seen some oak during ageing which means that there's a nutty, creaminess to it. That extra depth makes it ideal for pairing with a creamy pork stew.

£8.49 from Wine Rack

Clementine Chenin Blanc 2012, South Africa

This wine is filled with nuances of apples and pears but is followed by a distinctive, savoury note and flinty minerality. It's also incredibly refreshing so would be perfect for a buttery seafood dish like sole meuniere with new potatoes.

£6.99 from Wine Rack (or £6 each when you buy 2)

The Paddler Riesling 2012, Marlborough, New Zealand

There's so much fruit, and residual sugar, from this Riesling that you might wonder if it's better suited for desserts. And that can work. The lemony tang is pronounced, bolstered by floral notes and chalky minerality. If you want to go savoury for this wine, opt for a gently-spicy Thai green curry.

Domaine des Aubuisieres Vouvray 2012, Loire, France

This off-dry Vouvray, made with Chenin Blanc grapes, is very citrusy with a hint of blossom and green apple. With medium body, it's got good enough structure to cope with heavier food. To contrast the high acidity in this wine, think chicken in a creamy sauce.

£9.99 from Majestic (or £8.99 each when you buy 2)

Montenovo Godello 2012, Valdeorras, Spain

The Godello grape is generally only found in wines from the Galicia region of Spain. This example is very delicate - it has incredible acidity coupled with hints of citrus. Try it with a tomato-based seafood paella.

£11.99 from Majestic (or £9.99 each when you buy 2)

Waimea Estate Pinot Gris 2012, Nelson, New Zealand

This Pinot Gris is very light on the nose but offers a bucket-load of flavour on the palate. The top notes are green apples but there's also a hint of lemon and flinty minerality. It would work well with a Caesar salad or butternut squash soup.

£13.49 from Majestic (or £10.79 each when you buy 2)

Lammershoek Chenin Blanc 2010, Swartland, South Africa

If it's minerality that you're looking for then this wine has bags of it. It also boasts apple and floral notes that takes away some of the steeliness. This is a wine with character so you will need something equally characterful like duck rilette with cornichons.

£11.95 from Berry Bros & Rudd

Villa Broglia Gavi 2012, Piedmont, Italy

They say that the 2012 vintage in Gavi was the smallest and highest quality ever recorded. This light wine is perfumed with white flower and citrus but finishes with a slight nuttiness. Despite its delicate style, it will happily suit something like a roasted cod with crushed potatoes and samphire.

£12.49 from Laithwaites

Cono Sur Bicicleta Viognier 2012, Central Valley, Chile

Viognier grapes are known for making aromatic wines and this is no exception. Melon and orange blossom really comes through for this medium-bodied tipple but those are just the most pronounced flavours. It has enough complexity to work with an Asian-inspired stir fry. Even beef will work here.

£6 from Morrisons

Poggio alle Rondini Verdicchio di Matelica 2012, Marche, Italy

This full bodied wine has hints of melon and apple, coupled with creamy minerality. There's some development to the wine already but there's also still quite a lot of fruit. It's perfect for something like seared pork chop with braised cabbage.

£8.99 from Majestic (or £6.99 each when you buy 2)
