With park picnics, restaurant dinners and summer holidays (hopefully) looming on the horizon, we begin tentatively to think of the fabulous dresses we will wear once we re-emerge into society.

And yet will we be able to handle the dressing stresses of a flesh-flashing mini? Will it be possible to embrace formal fabrics and structured bodices after our entirely elasticated 2020?

Enter Cecilie Bahnsen’s autumn/ winter 2021 collection The City, debuted on the Paris Fashion Week schedule, which centres on fabulous-yet-cocooning dresses made from the softest, loveliest fabrics.

“It became super important to me how the fabrics felt against the skin – the texture and touch,” said the Danish designer of the collection, which took inspiration not from a mood board but from the luxurious fabrics for which the label has become known: quilted silks, floral fil-coupé, pleated organza and the softest matelassé.

“Our lives are so digital and distant in this moment, I wanted the fabrics to be a contrast. When you put on a piece from the collection, I want you to feel the beauty of the fabric, to be comforted by it,” continues Bahnsen, who has launched the collection with a pre-order model that is open for five days post-show, in a bid to make her production cycle more responsible.

“I wanted it to be the most beautiful collection we’ve done – every detail, every silhouette, the fabrics, all of it to have the touch of the hand. I wanted the wearer to feel our passion for our craft in every piece.”
