So, you want to join a gym. Or, more specifically, you've got a settled on a new fitness-related goal - like learning how to deadlift or training for a half marathon and need the space, equipment and guidance that one can bring. Not sure where to start? We've scoured out the best free gym passes so you can try your workout location before you sign that dotted line.

That's because not all gyms are created equal. Some have fancy changing rooms and top-notch classes, while others have flexible opening hours and every-sized weight you can think of to lunge at.

As a result, we're strong believers in trying before you buy - because not only do gym-goers spend an average of a a whole working day in their gym each week, but feeling comfortable in the place you workout is key to sticking to a training regime and getting those all-important results.

To help you make the right choice, we've rounded up nine complimentary gym trials around the UK - ranging from one to ten days - so you can do a workout recce before you commit to spending each month (the average Londoner shells out over £600 a year on their gym membership, FYI). 1. Xercise4Less: Free 5 day pass

With 52 gyms UK wide, Xercise4Less is a smaller gym chain but that doesn't mean their free-pass offer is any less as good. As above, just fill your details in on Xercise4Less website here, and one of their staff members will contact you to book your free day in. Simple.

2. DW Fitness First: Free 3 day pass

Fancy trying one of DW Fitness First's 120 gyms all over the country? Then nab yourself a free three-day trial by clicking this link, choosing your gym and filling in the correct information.

Someone from the team will give you a call within 24 hours to get you booked in for a session. Make sure to use your pass before 14 days are up or it expires.

3. Anytime Fitness: Free 3 day pass

Another very generous offer comes from the team at Anytime Fitness, which allows any non-members a three day pass to trial the gym for free. There are over 115 gyms in the UK, so click this link, find your nearest gym, and use then get ready to use within fourteen days of completing. A note—the three days do have to be consecutive. No January, February and March workout days allowed.

4. Better: Free 1 day pass

Not a member of Better? They're a leisure centre chain with 250 locations dotted around the UK allowing you to try their facilities for a day for free. This includes exercise classes, the gym and their pools - though it's important to remember that you do need to book an introductory session if you're planning on using the gym space, for health and safety reasons. 5. Nuffield Health: Free 1 day pass

Another gym offering you a one day gym pass totally for free is Nuffield Health, and again, it's as simple as going to the Nuffield Health website to find your nearest location. They have over 100 fitness centres across the UK, so there should be one nearby. Download your pass and use within seven days from the date of download. Note: you'll need to show photo ID at the reception desk when you get there.

6. Energie Fitness: Free 1 day pass

It's as simple as heading to their website, finding your nearest gym and then selecting 'Get a day pass'. They'll send your pass to you email—remember to have it to have to show on entry at any of their 100 clubs across the UK. Select locations even have saunas which you can use on the pass. Easy peasy.

7. Freedom Leisure: Free 1 day pass

If you live close to any of the 77 Freedom Leisure locations across England and Wales that offer free day passes, it's worth a try. Simply head to their website and fill out the form and a member of staff will be in touch to arrange your visit. Use within 28 days.

8. Fusion Lifestyle: Free 1 day pass

If you live in London or the South-West of England, Fusion Lifestyle will host you for a day totally for free. They have over 100 branches, 77 of which will allow you to pop in and trial their facilities for nothing if you're new. Head to Fusion Lifestyle to find out more information.

9. Move GB: Free 10 day pass

Keen to get moving but intimidated by the idea of the gym? Try Move GB. It'll give you access to thousands of different activities in venues up and down the country and all you need is one membership — a bit like Classpass, but free. Simply sign up, and give their ten-day free trial a go before you commit. Head to the Move GB website for your access to the deal.
