As the demand grows for more sustainable wedding options, Selfridges is getting in on the action. The London retailer has launched a new wedding shop called Resellfridges: The Wedding, where it will specialise in secondhand wedding wear for brides, grooms and guests.

The pop-up, which opens today at the flagship store on Oxford Street, will last for five weeks, catering to those looking for unique and one-of-a-kind pre-loved pieces to wear on their own wedding days, or to wear as guests. You can also shop the collection online.

The pieces featured have been collated by a number of vintage-shopping experts, including Bay Garnett, and the collection includes designs from ReSee, Rokit Vintage, Vout Vintage, alongside a collection from Mon Vintage, as well as iconic pieces from brands such as Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Alaïa.

As well as offering these pre-loved options, Selfridges will also be offering consumers the chance to rent their wedding wear. The store has partnered with rental-service Hurr, which will help both brides and wedding guests find the perfect outfits to wear on these special occasions, but without having to buy.

Both of these new concepts are part of the store's Project Earth campaign, where it is attempting to change the way people shop.

Selfridges has moved into the wedding market in other unexpected ways too. The retailer recently acquired a wedding license to ensure that ceremonies can take place in its Oxford Street store for a limited time this year, giving couples a unique opportunity to tie the knot at the iconic London space.

There will three packages on offer – Just The Two of Us, Earth-Lovers and All-Out Extraordinary – with experiences spanning pre-wedding luxury beauty treatments and styling consultations, dinners and breakfasts at the acclaimed Brasserie of Light, movie screenings at its private cinema and four-hour DJ sets with Sink The Pink. Jonny Woo is also available as a celebrant if you so wish. You can find out more about that here.
